Free Nursing CEU resources

Free nursing ceu's can be used for the required continuing education hours, or ceu's that are required to remain current in your nursing knowledge and maintain your nursing license. Free hours are available from a variety of sources.



These ceu hours are needed to maintain your nursing license, and the number needed will depend on the state you are licensed in. If you are unsure on the requirements for your state you may find the website for your state board here. As the requirements do vary by state, please check that the hours offered are from a source approved by your state board.

In most cases it is not difficult to find the required hours that are needed. We offer links to some of the free continuing education hours we have found.

Certain college classes can also count toward your required hours. According to the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners one academic credit hour is equal to 15 contact hours. Nursing classes toward a higher degree qualify but prerequisites such as biology and math do not. Prior to counting your nursing classes toward your contact hours please confirm with your state board as this will vary by state. This information can be found on the boards website.

Watch for any nursing magazines you receive in the mail. Several free mailings may include free ceu's!

Nurse.com is offering a variety of courses with free contact hours A variety of free courses are available.


Free CEU offerings!

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offers a variety of free nursing continuing education hours.

RN.com offers a free course with contact hours every month. From the home page go to courses and look for the free offering.

The United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health offers free nursing continuing education hours through a Cultural competency course. This online course provides 9.0 free contact hours. (expires February 28, 2011)

The Texas Health Steps program offers several courses in relation to children.

RNCeus is offering 3 free contact hours on bladder management after a spinal cord injury.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America offers 7 free ceu's on Asthma Management and Education.
